The show is an unscripted competition series based on the mobile game Fallout Shelter, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, in which contestants live as Vault Dwellers competing for a grand prize. The Announcement at a Glance

Each row is expanded below with its source, and the pieces still missing are tracked — with dates — on the announcement timeline page.

Fact 1: The Premiere Date Is Official — January 13, 2027

This is not a rumor, a projection, or a "reportedly." Amazon MGM Studios announced January 13, 2027 as the premiere date for Fallout Shelter: The Experiment, through the October 23, 2026 announcement covered by Deadline and IGN, and reinforced by an official date-announcement trailer. A dedicated trailer for the date is the strongest form of commitment a streaming announcement makes — it is a marketing asset, not a leak. For everything practical about being ready on the day — subscription, regions, what time new episodes land — see the how to watch guide.

Fact 2: This Is an Unscripted Competition Series — a Show, Not a Game

The single most important disambiguation on this wiki: Fallout Shelter: The Experiment is a television series, not a video game. It is an unscripted competition — reality-format contestants in live competition — produced by Amazon MGM Studios for Prime Video. If you searched expecting a new Fallout game to play, the thing you can actually play today is the original Fallout Shelter mobile game, which has its own page here — the Fallout Shelter game guide. And if you were thinking of Amazon's scripted Fallout drama series, that is a different show entirely — the distinction is untangled in the FAQ.

Fact 3: The Premise Comes From Fallout Shelter — Vault Life as Competition

The series is based on the Fallout Shelter mobile game, and the announced premise translates that game's fantasy directly into format: contestants live as Vault Dwellers — the underground bunker residents at the heart of Fallout Shelter — and compete for a grand prize. It is a remarkably literal adaptation: Fallout Shelter has always been about managing vault life, assigning dwellers, keeping the shelter running through crises; the show takes that setting and puts real people inside it. The full premise breakdown — what is announced about the format, and the honest unknowns like the prize amount — is on the what is the Experiment page. The lore the premise draws on — what a Vault Dweller is, and why vaults define the Fallout universe — is covered from public knowledge on the Vault Dweller lore page.

Fact 4: Amazon MGM Studios Is Producing, for Prime Video

The production credit matters: Amazon MGM Studios — the studio behind Prime Video's Fallout universe content — is producing, which places the series inside Amazon's broader stewardship of the Fallout franchise. For viewers, that means the show lives on Prime Video, Amazon's streaming service; everything about accessing it — subscriptions, devices, regional availability — is covered in the Prime Video guide and the how to watch guide.

Fact 5: The Announcement Came With a Date Trailer

Alongside the October 23, 2026 press coverage, an official date-announcement trailer was released — the announcement's audiovisual anchor. Trailers of this kind are typically short, tonal first looks rather than format reveals; what the trailer shows versus what remains unrevealed (cast, format details, the vault's look) is being documented as clips and coverage are verified. The full sequence of who announced what, when, is on the announcement timeline.

What We Don't Know Yet — The Honest List

As of October 23, 2026, the following are not announced, and this wiki will not invent them:

1. The grand prize amount — a grand prize is confirmed to exist; its value is not announced.
2. The contestant roster and count — no cast announced.
3. Episode count and release cadence — weekly versus binge is not stated.
4. Host and format specifics — challenges, elimination structure, episode length: nothing announced.
5. Exact drop time on January 13 — not stated; see the how to watch page for how Prime Video typically handles premieres, labeled as pattern rather than promise.

Each item flips to "announced" the moment it is verifiably revealed, and this page's last-verified line moves with it.
